About Author
नरेन्द्र कोहली का जन्म 6 जनवरी 1940, सियालकोट ( अब पाकिस्तान ) में हुआ । दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय से 1963 में एम.ए. और 1970 में पीएच.डी. की उपाधि प्राप्त की । शुरू में पीजीडीएवी कॉलेज में कार्यरत फिर 1965 से मोतीलाल नेहरू कॉलेज में । बचपन से ही लेखन की ओर रुझान और प्रकाशन किंतु नियमित रूप से 1960 से लेखन । 1995 में सेवानिवृत्त होने के बाद पूर्ण कालिक स्वतंत्र लेखन। कहानी¸ उपन्यास¸ नाटक और व्यंग्य सभी विधाओं में अभी तक उनकी लगभग सौ पुस्तकें प्रकाशित हुई हैं। उनकी जैसी प्रयोगशीलता¸ विविधता और प्रखरता कहीं और देखने को नहीं मिलती। उन्होंने इतिहास और पुराण की कहानियों को आधुनिक परिप्रेक्ष्य में देखा है और बेहतरीन रचनाएँ लिखी हैं। महाभारत की कथा को अपने उपन्यास "महासमर" में समाहित किया है । सन 1988 में महासमर का प्रथम संस्करण 'बंधन' वाणी प्रकाशन द्वारा प्रकाशित हुआ था । महासमर प्रकाशन के दो दशक पूरे होने पर इसका भव्य संस्करण नौ खण्डों में प्रकाशित किया है । प्रत्येक भाग महाभारत की घटनाओं की समुचित व्याख्या करता है। इससे पहले महासमर आठ खण्डों में ( बंधन, अधिकार, कर्म, धर्म, अंतराल,प्रच्छन्न, प्रत्यक्ष, निर्बन्ध) था, इसके बाद वर्ष 2010 में भव्य संस्करण के अवसर पर महासमर आनुषंगिक (खंड-नौ) प्रकाशित हुआ । महासमर भव्य संस्करण के अंतर्गत ' नरेंद्र कोहली के उपन्यास (बंधन, अधिकार, कर्म, धर्म, अंतराल,प्रच्छन्न, प्रत्यक्ष, निर्बन्ध,आनुषंगिक) प्रकाशित हैं । महासमर में 'मत्स्यगन्धा', 'सैरंध्री' और 'हिडिम्बा' के बारे में वर्णन है, लेकिन स्त्री के त्याग को हमारा पुरुष समाज भूल जाता है।जरूरत है पौराणिक कहानियों को आधुनिक परिप्रेक्ष्य में समझा जाये। इसी महासमर के अंतर्गततीन उपन्यास 'मत्स्यगन्धा', 'सैरंध्री' और 'हिडिम्बा' हैं जो स्त्री वैमर्शिक दृष्टिकोण से लिखे गये हैं ।
