About the Author Bed?ich Hrozný (1879-1952) was a Czech orientalist, archaeologist, linguist, and polyglot. He also deciphered the Hittite language and laid down the foundations of Hittite history, culture, and civilization in mainstream academia. He is also known as the father of Hittitology. He discovered around 1 cuneiform tablets containing letters and other modes of exchanges of Assyrian merchants in Kältepe in modern Turkey. In 1929, he founded the journal Archiv Orientální, which deals with Africa, Asia, and Near Eastern studies.
