The meaning of the word ‘Veda’ is knowledge. Knowledge is at its zenith in the Vedas. For the Hindus, the Veda is a testimony to its Virtues par excellence. The Hindus did not give acceptance to so many tangible testimonies because they were not taintless. Calling those, atheists, who do not accept the Vedas as testimony (Nastiko Ved Nindakah) shows the importance of the Vedas from the viewpoint of the Hindus.
The Vedas are divine (beyond the power and capability of a human being). Whatever is established in these, was seen by the sages with their transcendental eyes. This is the reason why the sages are called the seers of mantras (Rishayo Mantra Drashtarah). They are authentic, ie. they are speakers of ‘Truth’ (Aptastu Yatharthavakta). They attained knowledge beyond perception of sensory organs at a level which was absolute and divine; and this is why it is authentic, true and eternal.
There is a great deal of commentary on the Karma, prayer and knowledge in the Vedas. There is thorough determination of relation between God and Nature, the gods and living beings in the Vedas. All these are created by absolute ‘Truth’. These are relative truths. It is not possible to have attainment and experience of the ‘Absolute’ without contemplating these.
Having the wishes fulfilled and reaching the stage of Nishkam (passionless and impersonal action) have also been established in the Vedas. This is why, where, on the one hand, there is an unravelling of the mysteries of religious rituals in it, on the other, it has an opening of vistas of profound spiritual experience.
This book gives brief and to the point knowledge on the above subjects. Reading this book gives an inspiration to read and understand the Vedas and the scriptural literatures.
