Karnataka’s celebrated polymath, D V Gundappa brings together in the fourth volume, some character sketches of the Dewans of Mysore preceded by an account of the political framework of the State before Independence and followed by a review of the political conditions of the State after 1940. These remarkable leaders of Mysore lived in a period that spans from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. These memoirs, written in Kannada in the late 1960s, go beyond personal memories and offer us a glimpse into the society of that era. Art Gallery of Memories ranks high among the great works of creative non-fiction in world literature and appears for the first time in English translation
