Talks in China (1925) is a
collection of lectures delivered by Rabindranath Tagore in China in 1924 at
the invitation of the Bengali Lecture Association. Many of the poet’s talks
were informal, delivered without any written notes. His China visit was extremely
tempestuous, he met with organized hostility from the members of the
Communist Party and was labelled both reactionary and ideologically
dangerous. Talks in China is dedicated to Susima, Tagore’s name for Xu Zhimo,
the noted Chinese poet who acted as his interpreter during his visit.
