This work is based on 23 years of research. It is the story of those Kashmiri Hindus and other civilians who were trapped when Pakistani invaders overran many areas of J&K in 1947-48. Some of these areas were Liberated later by the Indian Army, but many areas continue to remain under the illegal occupation of Pakistan. Pakistan’s objective was not only Limited to the annexation of the territory of J&K by force. It went beyond that. It aimed at complete ethnic cleansing of the minorities living in these areas. Over 38,000 Hindus and Sikhs lost their lives in the holocaust unleashed by Pakistan. Thousands stranded in occupied areas were repatriated in 1949-51. Pakistan disregarded all international covenants on the treatment of refugees. It tried to inflict as much misery on them as possible to break their resolve to live. This book brings out new material on the trials and tribulations of people who were trapped in Muzaffarabad, Skardu, Khaplu, Shigar, Drass, Leh, Gilgit, Astore, Bunji, Chilas, Rajouri, Thanamandi, Budhal, Chassana, Mirpur, Kotti, etc. Also, new facts on how Pakistan planned the attack have been added. This makes the book a valuable reference material for scholars working on the contemporary history of the sub-continent.
