Material Science

This text has been written to bring out sundry aspects of material properties and behaviours befitting the interests in several areas of engineering. Starting from basic material structure, solidification of metal to crystal formation attempt has been made to introduce each aspect in smooth succession. The physics and chemistry involved in structure and properties has been explained though to a limited extent because otherwise the text would have extended greatly.The topics included in this text are typically in excess of a normal first year level course often offered in Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. The present book on Material Science can be used by students preparing for degree/diploma in any branch of engineering and also those who seek membership examinations of Institution of Engineers, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication engineers and also by students of higher courses. The data on several materials may be useful to many practicing engineers. They can of course supplement their understanding of material behaviour.
