About Author

Kurt Rutter was born in 1956 in Palo Alto, California, but moved to Michigan in 1966, narrowly avoiding the rise of Silicon Valley (whew!). Instead he grew up in the rust belt observing the collapse of the industrial Midwest while living in the technology oasis town of Ann Arbor, working as a cab driver. Kurt earned a BFA in 1984 in sculpture and, having learned nothing from observing the collapse of the manufacturing industry, worked for many years as a foundry-person helping to create monuments such as the Korean War Memorial in Wash. DC and the Haida Gwaii Spirit Canoe in Vancouver BC. Finally the dime dropped and he returned to school at night for a nursing degree, earning his license in 1998. After twenty years practicing and teaching nursing, Kurt began writing stories while pursuing a PhD in education with a learning technologies focus. He lives in Hawaiʻi where he writes and works with bees.
