For centuries Mt. Everest has stood as a symbol of indefatigable human spirit, pinnacle of human endevaour, and a testimony to the victory of the mind over matter. It has been a prestigious arena of outstanding performance by driven men and women. Some seek peace in its hallowed environs, some are drawn by the thrill and adventure, some venture on its lofty slopes to secure a place in the annals of history while some walk into the jaws of death to simply regain their self-esteem. Beyond That Wall is a story of redemption of one of India’s most inspirational women. When you fall in your own eyes, you have to rise irrespective of dangers, risk to life and the hardships. The book not only vividly describes her eventful climb to the top of Mt. Everest, but also delves deep into human psychology, bringing up gems of wisdom applicable to all walks of life. Sprinkled with glimpses into enchanting Sherpa culture, it mirrors human emotions and endevaours, to reflect into the heart of every reader his/her own quest and the way to attain it. A compelling combination of adventure, emotions and inspiration! *** More information about the Book ‘Beyond That Wall’, by Squadron Leader Toolika Rani It’s a narration of my efforts to climb Mt. Everest successfully in 2012, after my failed attempt the previous year which had devastated me and let the people who had faith in me down. But, as every accomplishment is a journey as much within as outside, the book describes the introspection, the resultant knowledge of the self and the emotional wisdom I gained during my endeavour. These values are applicable to every human being striving to attain his/her dreams and goals. The book also gives glimpses of Sherpa society of Nepal, an ethnic group closely associated with mountaineering, so it’s beneficial from the point of view of socio-economic, cultural and anthropological studies. It is also a woman’s quest to attain an unconventional goal, defying the social stereotypes.
