Tom Jones

Tom Jones is what Henry Fielding called ‘a comic epic poem in prose’. A meticulously planned novel, it is pervaded by the ‘comic spirit’ in all its forms. Fielding exposes the hypocrisy of eighteenth century English society at various levels; he also remains true to ‘human nature’; the faults it has. However, Tom Jones has a significant place in the history of English novel which no one can take away.
