The Wealth Network: Trade, Terrain, and the Making of India explores the complex interplay of geography, trade, and culture that shaped India’s historical journey. Moving away from the traditional focus on kings and politicians, the book shifts attention to India’s trading communities who crossed mountains, rivers, and oceans to build the country’s economic foundations. It traces historical patterns through interconnected networks and nodes—trade routes and cities where people, goods, money, and ideas continuously flowed. Woven into these networks are 108 stories that invite readers to look more deeply into India’s past, touching on themes of trade and travel, faith and power, migration and ambition, and, above all, the movement of wealth and the profound influence it had on shaping Indian history.
