About Author

Melissa A. Schilling is the John Herzog Family Professor of Management and Organizations at New York University’s Stern School of Business. She teaches courses in strategic management, corporate strategy, technology, and innovation management. Prior to joining NYU, she was an Assistant Professor at Boston University (1997–2001) and has also served as a Visiting Professor at INSEAD and the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, University of California, Santa Barbara. She has taught strategy and innovation courses at Siemens Corporation, IBM, the Kauffman Foundation Entrepreneurship Fellows program, Sogang University (Korea), and the Alta Scuola Polytecnica (Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino). Her most recent work focuses on knowledge creation—including how breadth of knowledge and search influence learning and insight, and how knowledge networks shape capacity for innovation. Her research has appeared in leading journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, and Research Policy. She also serves on the editorial review boards of several leading journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Discoveries, Organization Science, Strategy Science, and Strategic Organization.

Professor Ravi Shankar is one of India’s most distinguished voices in operations excellence, strategic management of technology, and innovation systems. He is currently a professor in the Higher Administrative Grade at the Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, with over four decades of academic and research leadership. He previously held the Amar S. Gupta Chair Professorship in Decision Science and has served as Visiting Professor at globally reputed institutions including Lehigh University (USA), Loughborough University (UK), and the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand). Over his career, he has supervised 77+ doctoral dissertations and 150+ master’s theses on topics such as technology diffusion, innovation management, Industry 4.0 transitions, supply chain management, big data analytics, and circular economy frameworks. His contributions include 400+ peer-reviewed publications and editorial leadership in journals such as the Journal of Advances in Management Research (Emerald UK) and the Journal of Business Logistics (Wiley). He has led internationally funded projects across the UK, US, Greece, and Italy, mobilizing research support exceeding USD 2.5 million to address challenges in smart freight systems, green supply networks, and sustainability transitions.
