This book is a collection of one hundred and eight popular Keertanas (songs) by Purandara Dasa, translated into English and presented in verse form. On each page, you’ll find the original song transliterated in English on the left side, and the poetic English translation on the right. Following each song is a discussion of its significance and the author’s interpretation.

The aim of this book is to make Purandara Dasa’s works accessible to a broader audience. Originally composed in Kannada, a language from the Karnataka state in India, these Keertanas are a staple in Carnatic Classical music concerts. This book helps artists read the lyrics accurately, interpret their meanings, and appreciate their beauty.

While many have interpreted these lyrics before, the author has strived to maintain the original diction’s beauty. This effort ensures that the transliterations can be sung just like the original verses, preserving their musical essence.

This book not only broadens the reach of Purandara Dasa’s timeless works but also serves as a valuable resource for artists and music lovers, enabling them to connect deeply with the lyrics and their meanings.
