1. Gitanjali :- “Gitanjali, ” or Song Offerings, is a collection of poems translated by the author, Rabindranath Tagore, from the original Bengali. This collection won Tagore the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He was the first Asian to win the honour. These poems are primarily devotional, with mystic aura and sublimated ecstasy. They are the thoughts of a seer; the perfect union of beauty and truth in poetry from the pen of the greatest poet of modern India. While introducing this small volume to the West, W. B. Yeats wrote: “Though the work of a supreme culture, they yet appear as much the growth of the common soil as the grass and the rushes. A tradition, where poetry and religion are the same thing, has passed through the centuries, gathering from learned and unlearned metaphor and emotion and carried back again to the multitude the thought of the scholar and of the noble. ”

2. My Boyhood Days :- The autobiographical account of Rabindranath Tagore, My Boyhood Days gives an insight into the childhood days of Rabindranath Tagore and describes the various relationships he shared with family members and servants in his earlier years. The memoir portrays colonial Calcutta and its inhabitants’ way of life and describes the changes it has undergone with time, comparing it with the modern times. Originally written in Bengali as Chhelebela, My Boyhood Days depicts how Tagore was significantly influenced by the household atmosphere in his childhood days and ended up reshaping the Bengali literature and art.

3. Gora :- “By plucking the petals you do not gather the beauty of the flower.”The longest of Rabindranath Tagore’s novels, Gora is rich in philosophical debate on politics and religion. The novel blatantly exposes the inequality and orthodoxy that exists in the established religious customs and traditions in the intertwining love stories between Gora and Sucharita and Binoy and Lolita.Set in the backdrop of Bengal under British rule, Gora reverberates with the vibration of India’s nationalist awakening, unravelling the various internal and external conflicts between man and society and establishing itself as an epic saga among the classics.
