Punjab, a robust and resilient land, is often regarded as the gateway to the Indian subcontinent, being the point of entry in the northwest frontier where India faced foreign invasions for centuries. Besides being a stronghold and renowned for its military valour, it has assimilated several cultures through various times, contributing to its uniqueness. The narrative of the evolution of its vivacious culture, its interpretation in the present times and the various challenges and opportunities around it, form the core of this book.

The collection in the book includes an in-depth coverage of the rich cultural heritage of Punjab and bring forth its tangible and intangible assets through the lens of various experts. Practitioners showcase the work undertaken to understand its heritage, as well as the conservation initiatives over the years, with recommendations for the way forward to integrate these initiatives with long term socio-economic sustainability, while enhancing its global visibility.

This book presents the story of Punjab, an epitome of vibrancy — its punjabiyat, truly expressed as the ‘eternal soul of Punjab’.
