The present volume is an outcome of a seminar organised by Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) and Department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar. The book re-examines some of the basic debates linking the concept of variegated art forms, culture and its manifestations in Northeastern parts of India. The papers describe different aesthetic traditions covering a wide range of cultural dimensions, such as, arts and crafts, paintings, music, dance and drama, textile, verbal art etc., of Northeastern states. It focuses on the issues of historicity, identity as well as emerging realities in this region from interdisciplinary perspectives. This book would thus be immensely useful to the scholars/researchers and students of anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, folklore, tribal studies as well as many other disciplines who are concerned with India’s Northeast and its cultural diversities.
