About Author

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus was Emperor of the Roman Empire from AD 161 till his death in 180. His two decades as emperor were overshadowed in later years by plague, near continual warfare and the deaths of friends and family. He was also faced with a series of invasions from German tribes, and had to deal with an internal revolt as well as conflicts with the Parthian Empire in the east. He was also referred to as 'the wise one' and is regarded as one of the most influential Stoic philosophers. His work Meditations, written in Greek, is revered as a literary masterpiece.
