1. Karna’s Wife : The Outcast’s Queen :-

Picking up a slice of Mahabharata, the epic tale of fight good and evil, justice and injustice , Kaurava and Pandav’s, Kavita Kane, the author, narrates the poignant story of the unsung hero Karna from the eyes of a lesser-known character, Urvi.

The book renders a unique perspective to the venerable legend. Written in the genre of magic-realism the book reflects various aspects of Karna’s nature. His unquestionable loyalty towards Duryodhana who in turn has unconditional love for the former, the ghosts of Karna’s past and the mystery surrounding his birth are some of the themes that Kavita Kane structures her book around in this tale.

The accomplished Kshatriya princess, Urvi falls for the Sutputra-Karna, eventually discounting Arjun. She chooses Karna over her childhood mate Arjun and faces fury from many. Caught between the social implications from her act of defiance and her endeavours to gain respect and love from her husband, Urvi’s struggles as the outcast’s queen have been explored.

Urvi soon secures a key place in Karna’s life as a friend, counsellor and confidante. Between fighting her own demons, she stands firm by her husband’s side, supporting Karna through all his misfortunes and struggles. As Karna’s wife, the outcast’s queen, shows a refreshing facet of the battle of Kurukshetra and how the outcast rose above his destiny to be forever regarded as ‘Daata Karna’.

2. Menaka’s Choice :-

Born during the churning of the ocean, Menaka is the most beautiful of all the apsaras in the world, with quick intelligence and innate talent. However, she craves for the one thing she can never have—family.

Elsewhere, after severe austerities, a man, now blessed with the name Vishwamitra, challenges the gods and dares to create another heaven. Fearing his growing powers, Indra, the king of gods, decides to put a stop to his ambitions by making Menaka seduce him.

What will happen when Menaka and Vishwamitra meet each other? Will Menaka finally find what she really wished for? Or will she again be forced to surrender to her destiny? Find out in this fascinating portrait of one of the most enduring mythological figures.

3. Ahalya’s Awakening :-

What I searched all these years for myself—and I only found Ahalya, the woman I was supposed to be born as: unblemished, without any faults. I had no hala in me, no sin, no crime, no guilt. What I had done was to respond to the call of life within me…’—Ahalya.

Created by Brahma; married to one of the greatest rishis of all time; desired by the king of gods, Indra. A woman maligned and cursed. But who was Ahalya? What did she want? Did she have ambitions and desires?

In this sparkling retelling of the well-known legend, bestselling author Kavita Kané draws out the voice of a character that lacked one—even before she was turned to stone.

4. Lanka’s Princess :-

Surpanakha, Ravans infamous sister-ugly and untamed, brutal and brazen. This is how she is commonly perceived. One whose nose was sliced off by an angry Lakshman and the one who started a war but was she really just perpetrator of war? Or was she a victim? Was she Lankas princess? Or was she the reason for its destruction?

Surpanakha, meaning the woman as hard as nails was born as Meenakshi-the one with beautiful, fish-shaped eyes. Growing up in the shadows of her brothers, who were destined to win wars, fame and prestige, she, instead, charts up a path filled with misery and revenge.

Accused of manipulating events between Ram and Ravan, which culminated in a bloody war and annihilation of her family, Surpanakha is often the most misunderstood character in the Ramayana. Kavita Kane s Lankas Princess tells the story from the vantage of this woman more hated than hateful…

5. Tara’s Truce :-

Do we mean anything?’ Tara questioned hopelessly. ‘Are our desires, our dreams relevant to the course of destiny at all?’

Tara. Vali’s wife; Sugriv’s queen; the woman behind Rama’s curse.

A person of extraordinary intellect, foresight and determination, Tara is a master stateswoman, both before and after she marries Vali and is crowned the queen of Kishkindh. But her wisdom and stature cannot stand in the way of destiny. Tara finds herself caught in a battle of egos between the two brothers and reduced to the victor’s trophy. However, in this time of conflict, she resourcefully restores peace and prosperity in the kingdom she helped build, even if it means sacrificing everything.

Kavita Kané, in her latest recounting of the Ramayana, narrates the tale of Tara’s truce—the compromises Tara made to fulfil her divinely ordained purpose, including marrying her husband’s killer.
