Essential Readings in Infectious Disease Epidemiology is a collection of readings and practice exercises designed to complement the methods training presented in the main text, Essentials of Infectious Disease Epidemiology. Where the parent text focuses on methods, this book provides actual readings and examples on which to practice new skills. It may also be used in tandem with any introductory or intermediate epidemiology text to give the student critical skills in reading and interpretation. The Readings continues to boil down tough concepts in infectious disease epidemiology, stripping away jargon and replacing it with key concepts that may be applied to more advanced work in the classroom or in the field. The book is uniquely organized around the themes of ID epidemiology (rather than by chronology) and mirrors the structure of the main textbook to create a more engaging experience for the reader. Each excerpt includes an introduction to the historic or cultural context; a description of the “take-home” message of the passage, excerpt, or graph.
