1. History of Medieaval Hindu India: Rise of Hindu Kingdom

This first volume contains the history of the first set of Hindu kingdoms which ruled in India from about 650 to 800 A. D., though in particular cases like that of Kashmir it has been found advisable to bring the history down to the end of the Hindu period i. e. to 1200 A. D., we have however, followed the example of gibbon in one important respect and have given in book I, a detailed account of the reign of Harsha which is in a manner the basis of this history and we have also taken a survey of the political, social and religious condition of the country in the time of that emperor, a condition which furnishes the starting point for the subsequent evolution of the Hindu people.

2. Early History of Rajputs (750 to 1000 A.D.)

The origin of the Rajputs has been a much-debated topic among the historians. Colonial-era writers characterized them as descendants of the foreign invaders such as the Scythians or the Hunas, and believed that the Agnikula myth was invented to conceal their foreign origin. According to this theory, the Rajputs originated when these invaders were assimilated into the Kshatriya category during the 6th or 7th century, following the collapse of the Gupta Empire. While many of these colonial writers propagated this foreign-origin theory in order to legitimize the colonial rule, the theory was also supported by some Indian scholars, such as D. R. Bhandarkar. The Indian nationalist historians, such as C. V. Vaidya, believed the Rajputs to be descendants of the ancient Vedic Aryan Kshatriyas. A third group of historians, which includes Jai Narayan Asopa, theorized that the Rajputs were Brahmins who became rulers.

3. History of Medieaval Hindu India: Downfall of Hindu

This volume brings down the history of India to about 1200 A.D. when the whole of Northern India Practically fall before the Mohomedans. The fall of Hindu India began in the very beginning of the sub-period treated in this volume, as Kabul and the Punjab fell before mohmud from about 1000 to 1009 A.D.
