This autobiography’s most important message is that it is indeed possible for any individual to attain very high position in life by making sincere and honest efforts coupled with intelligent and commonsense approach. Shri Jaisukhlalji was neither a genius nor an expert in any field of study except maybe in human psychology; yet starting as a school teacher, he ultimately became a Union Cabinet Minister and Governor of an important state of India.
The tall and hefty Hathiji was suave and serene. He was neither obstinate nor readily compliant. He was persuasive and persevering. His approach was marked by remarkable objectivity and detachment, totally devoid of subjectivity or any mental reservation. He was essentially a man of God, a devoted devotee, bhakta. He had all the attributes of a lawyer, viz. a logical and intelligent mind with a sharp memory. He was a public figure of a refreshingly different hue. He was Adviser to several Princely States in the pre-Independence era. From the setting up of the Constituent Assembly and provisional Parliament in 1946, he held several high positions in the Congress Party and the Union government till 1981.
