An exceptionally brilliant, and brilliantly intricate, debut novel about Bostonians and Bangaloreans by a tremendously talented young writer.’

Kapil Komireddi, The Spectator

A work of great imagination, Accidental Magic is an extraordinary novel about four very different people whose lives are brought together by Harry Potter; how flawed relationships can be; how we battle loneliness, live on hope and search for that perfect connection. It is also about the tension between duty and the individual pursuit of happiness.

‘A richly layered novel … Guha lets the story tell itself in impeccable language, rich metaphors and references, an innate understanding of human nature and a tangible sense of place – all handled with a lightness of touch and understated humour. … An impressive and imaginative debut.’

The Wire

‘Breathtaking … Guha emerges as a brilliant fiction writer. [His] first book has so much to offer in the realms of ambiguous questions, layered characters, fictional settings … You should most definitely read it.’

Scroll

‘Guha’s characters are highly nuanced … A very real story of interpersonal relationships and its oddities, often using humour to put forth some very difficult truths.’

The Telegraph

‘Sharp in its observation of human emotions, motivations and the power play between people.’

Mint Lounge

‘A terrific debut. Sparkling, very (very) funny, and deeply moving.’

Aravind Adiga

‘Truly something different, and exhilarating.’
