Professor R.K. Bansal was born on January 1, 1943. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1966 and joined Delhi College of Engineering as a lecturer in 1967, eventually becoming a professor in 1995. He earned his M.Tech with Honors from IIT Delhi in 1975 and his Ph.D. from the University of Delhi in 1981. Throughout his career, Prof. Bansal supervised numerous final-year projects, guided eight M.E. theses, and mentored one Ph.D. student. He published several papers, with two notable ones—"Application of F.E.M. to Potential Flow Over a Cylinder" and "F.E. Analysis of Ideal Fluid Flow Over an Axi-symmetric Solid Body"—receiving Certificates of Merit from the Institution of Engineers (India). Prof. Bansal served as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi, from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2002. He also held the positions of Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Delhi College of Engineering. An accomplished author, Prof. Bansal has written many engineering textbooks widely used in institutions across India. In 1999, he received the inaugural Distinguished Authors Award from the Federation of Educational Publishers in India.
