Sentence: Extraordinary Change In An Ordinary Family Over Six Generations is

historical instances and how they changed the lives of people living in those
times. R. Gopalakrishnan’s great- great- great grandfather Ranganathan was
born in 1824 in a land owning a Tamil Brahmin family. The period is famous
for the formation of Indian National Congress, 1877 famine, introduction of
postal system, etc. Then came the era of the great thinker and philosopher
Periyar E. V. Ramaswamy Naicker, who was an advocate of abolition of the
caste system and ended the dominance of Brahmins in Tamil society. During
this period, three members of the author’s family, his father and two
cousins, left Tamil Nadu to find better job opportunities in Calcutta.
Despite the language and cultural barrier, the writer’s father, Rajam worked
as a stenographer and studied hard to become an accountant. The book is a
