Ladybird Classics: Little Women is a classic coming-of-age tale of four sisters and their journey from adolescence to womanhood.
Set in the 1800’s, the story revolves around Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, sisters with unique individual attributes who use their love for each other to endure the difficulties created by the family’s poverty. Meg is the eldest child in the family and is seen as the ideal little woman, complying to the wishes of her family, while being dutiful, refined and obedient. Jo is the wildchild and tomboy of the clan with a sharp tongue and cheeky demeanor. Beth is the shy, sweet and musically-inclined child, while Amy is seen artistic but a little self-absorbed. The challenges faced by these young women and their relationships with their friends and family members comprise the crux of this book.

About Author
Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist who is considered to be one of the most successful women authors of the time. She was raised during the mid 1800’s by transcendentalist parents who were wrestling with poverty. Her modest background forced her to join work early in her life as a teacher but after the success of her first novel, she left to pursue a career as a writer.
