उपन्यास, कहानी, गीत, नृत्य-नाटिका, निबन्ध, यात्रा-वृत्तान्त-सभी विधाओं को उन्होंने अपनी लेखनी से समृद्ध किया। 1913 में उन्हें उनकी कृति गीताजंलि के लिए साहित्य के नोबेल पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया गया था। बहुआयामी व्यक्तित्व वाले रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर साहित्यकार, चिन्तक और दार्शनिक तो थे ही, इसके अतिरिक्त वे एक अच्छे चित्रकार भी थे।
