About Author

Dr. Evelin Hust studied Political Science, Classical Indology, and Economics at the universities of Freiburg, Sussex and Heidelberg. Her specialization is on women in politics and urban governance in India. She is currently the representative of the South Asian Institute, University of Heidelberg, in Delhi. Michael Mann did his Ph.D. on an agrarian-cum-ecological study in north India during the first half of the nineteenth century. His current interests cover a variety of subjects ranging from colonial state formation and problems of legitimate rule from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, problems of urbanization and migration in South Asia to early colonial forest management and environmental studies. Presently he is an assistant professor at the FernUniversitaet in Hagen, Germany.
