The Flemish artist F. Balthazar Solvyns lived in Calcutta from 1791 to 183 and produced a remarkable series of etchings portraying the people of Bengal in their life and culture. About Author
Robert L. Hardgrave, Jr. is the Louann and Larry Temple Centennial Professor Emeritus in the Humanities, Departments of Government and Asian Studies at the University of Texas of Austin. His most recent book is A Portrait of the Hindus: Balthazar Solvyns & the European Image of India 176-1824.
