The Balakrishna temple complex is one of the important temples of Vijayanagara period, popularly known as Krishna temple, situated in Krishnapura, on the way to Virupaksha temple from Kamalapur, facing east, dedicated to Vaishnava in the form of Balakrishna, constructed by emperor Krishnadevaraya in 1514 A.D., to commemorating the conquest of Udayagiri in Orissa.

About Author

K M Suresh, retired Professor and former Director of the Museum at Kannada University, Hampi, Karnataka. Before joining Kannada University, Hampi, he served in the Archaeological Survey of India for 20 years, working in both the Museums Branch and Excavations Branch IV in Bhubaneswar, Orissa. He has published 20 books on subjects including Art and Architecture, Iconography and Sculptures, History, and Archaeology, along with more than 60 research articles in various journals and volumes. His research on sculptures earned him a Ph.D. with a focus on Vijayanagara sculptures at Hampi. At the university, he also served as Registrar and Finance Officer, and established a museum on campus representing Archaeology, Folklore, Epigraphy, Tribal art, and more. Additionally, he has guided students in earning D.Litt., Ph.D., and M.Phil degrees. He has also served as a Subject Committee Member in the UGC, UPSC, and other universities in the fields of History, Archaeology, and Architecture.
